World’s Largest Ropes Course at Sea: Norwegian Breakaway Cruise Ship

What you’re looking at is yet another ropes course I will not be climbing. However, I must share it with you, because 1) it’s the world’s largest ropes course at sea; and 2) I’ve been watching other people try it for the past three days, from the deck of the brand new Norwegian Breakaway. Pinch me.

Zip line Norwegian Breakaway

This is just the zip line part, at the end of the course.

I’ll be telling you more about the Breakaway – the largest cruise ship to ever homeport in New York – next week when I get all my notes and video together. Just on these top decks, there are a range of kid-friendly entertainment options, including the first Aqua Park at sea with five full-size water slides and twin Free Fall slides, and a three-story sports complex that includes this ropes course, a nine-hole miniature golf course, basketball court, rock climbing wall and more.

Ropes Course

This is the Plank, where you walk several feet out OVER THE OCEAN.

Miniature golf

Here you can see the mini golf course underneath the course. Where I watched.

This ship is over 1,000 feet long, and can carry 4,000-passengers. Un. Believable.

This is epic! The craziest add-on to any future cruiseship that even comes close to this is a flat escalator surrounding the cruiseship roof. I can’t think of anything better for lazy folks than that. Yet with this ropes course, it takes some serious courage to “Walk the Plank”.

Oh wow. I can see how it would be such a hit, but there’s no way I’d want to stand out on that plank!

I like it. Just to ask do they do a bungee sort of thing along with the plank?

Great pictures! Thank you so much for the posting. My Husband and I are going on the Breakaway next Spring out of New York. We are so excited to see all the new features and activities this Ship has to offer. The Breakaway also boasts “The Waterfront” a quarter mile long outdoor boardwalk with 8 El Fresco dining venues. Breakaway’s three-story Sports Complex (the largest at sea) features 40 different elements, including a “zip track” and “The Plank,” a platform that extends eight feet over the side of the ship. Younger cruisers will have their own mini-version. Other sports complex features include a rock-climbing wall, basketball court, bungee trampoline and “spider web,” a 24-foot enclosed climbing cage with a spiral slide. How cool is that!
