PHOTO FRIDAY – Dino Trio, Pittsburgh, PA
“Dino Trio.” Sounds like a smooth crooner group from the ‘50’s. “Singing live tonight at the Starlight Lounge…it’s the Dino Trio!”
Last week, on our post about the Jurassic dinosaur collection at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, I mentioned DinoMite Days, a 2004 public art project which resulted in 100 uniquely decorated dinosaurs, made of fiberglass and weighing 200 lbs each. They were temporarily installed throughout the city, but most have since been sold to private collectors.
However, several can still be found on public display. We found these BIG beauties in front the “Wintergarden” building at PPG Place!
They are, from left to right:
Philiposaurus. Artist: Gary Mesa Gaido
Ketchupsaurus. Artist: Kristina Martinez
Mr. Dig. Artist: Glennis McClellan
Pittsburgh is Heinz country, so I especially like the one painted like a ketchup bottle. Note how Mr. Dig is peering over The Boy’s shoulder, like he wants to get into the photo!
We also found this one outside the Carnegie Science Center. Poor guy had a broken horn. I couldn’t find a sign with any information about him.
See Photo Friday posts from other bloggers on DeliciousBaby.com.
I like the Dino with all the bling next to your ketchupy friend 🙂
Cool, right? That’s a mosaic treatment with bits of mirror.
These are awesome- I especially love the ketchup bottle one. If you would like to link up with another Photo Meme, I host Friday Daydreamin’ every Friday! I’d love for you to join!

Thanks, Becca. I will check it out next time I post a photo on a Friday. I’m trying to do more of them. I have one of the world’s largest pigeon waiting in the wings…(!)
My son puts ketchup on his ketchup. No where I can get a bottle that big?
Ha! My daughter does too. And the big bottles they sell at Costco don’t fit in our fridge. Might as well set up a spigot at the kitchen table.
Love the shots (particularly the ketchupsaurus)! Art projects like this are so much fun – Toronto did one a number of years ago with moose that were painted and displayed around the city. The moose were also sold privately after the project wrapped up and one of my neighbours purchased one and had it on his front lawn for a time – wish I would have taken a picture of it!
Wait! What happened to your neighbor’s moose? I would be sad to see it go, I think.
The ketchup one is definitely my favorite. It is too funny.
Love all the Pittsburgh posts. They love their dinosaurs!
I like the wire mesh stegosaurus next to the ketchup guy!
yes, the Stegasoraus in the form of a ketchup bottle is awesome. I actually also like the T-Rex that looks like it is sort of crawling out of it’s hiding spot where it’s rested for millions of years. Sort of a zombie T-Rex I guess. I went to a place in the Black Hills of South Dakota near an area where they had dug up a large dino fossil. That was a neat place as kids could pretend to dig up old fossils, etc.
Don’t even say the word “zombie!” I caught two minutes of “The Walking Dead” show recently and I’m plagued with nightmares! Matt thinks it’s hysterical.
You know Brad, I liked the buried T-Rex as well. Brought out the archaeologist in me. Where did you go in the Black Hills for the dino-bone digging? I know a swarm of little travelers who’d love to play paleontologist, do they get to keep the bones? I can’t imagine they would, it has to be a mold.
Love this place it really is a must see if you go to PA. !!!!!
I Love all the Pittsburgh posts. They love their dinosaurs!
Let me know next time you’re in Pittsburgh, I can show you a Dino wearing Mr. Roger’s sweater, one busting through a wall, one Triceratops that looks like a piggy bank (complete with money going in) and one outside a dentist’s office with a toothbrush!!!!
